What Parents Need to Know

About Kids' Space

Parents need to know that this Web site is committed to being a safe place just for kids; when users turn 14, they get a happy birthday message from the site and their account is deleted. Some of the site's features require parental registration -- to sign up for the "Pan-pal Box," for instance, a parent or guardian must complete part of the registration form and provide their own email address. The actual child-to-child communication uses an internal mailing system, so contacting a child outside of the site isn't possible (unless the pen pal discloses their own "real" address). Site staffers screen applicants and watch out for kids posing as their own parents, and the message boards have a filtering system.
