What to watch out for

  • Messages:

    Jennifer and Vince set out to knowingly deceive their family and friends and prey on their generosity by planning a fake wedding. Though the end result is rosy, their relationship definitely isn't a model of true love or good behavior. Vince is also a habitual gambler who's indebted to a loan shark.

  • Violence:

    In a few scenes, two thugs rough up Vince, point a gun at him, and threaten his life when he can't pay his debt to a loan shark. But the movie's light tone keeps the mood fairly friendly.

  • Sex:

    One brief make-out session (kissing and some fondling), and a few other instances of kissing. Adults sometimes mention sex in slang terms like "bang hot chicks" and "horizontal hokey pokey" or allude to performance in bed. A minor character's homosexuality is mentioned in passing.

  • Language:

    One use of "damn."

  • Consumerism:

    Greed for presents and cash is the main motivation for Jennifer and Vince's deception.

  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Adults drink champagne, beer, and wine with dinner.

Parents need to know that this romantic comedy centers on acquaintances who hatch a scheme to get married just for the gifts and cash. Despite the movie's lighthearted spin on the scenario -- and the inevitable happy ending -- the premise sends some iffy messages about love, marriage, and the real-life repercussions of serious issues like gambling. Factor in some intermittent sexual allusions (phrases like "bang hot chicks," for example) and light-duty violence (thugs punch Vince and threaten him with a gun), and it's clear that this movie isn't meant for young kids.
