Puppet teens serve up fast food and crass humor.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 9–12

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Adult characters are few and far between, and those who do exist appear totally out of touch with the young cast. The cast includes some stereotyped African-American characters. Lots of crass bodily function humor.
  • Violence:

Brief scuffles between friends. One scene shows a character hanging his friend upside down from a tall building (because the friend had mocked his hat).
  • Sex:

Lots of flirting and attempts to get noticed by the opposite sex. Some scenes include kissing.
  • Language:

No cursing, but lots of teen slang ("let me talk to my peeps") and attitude from the female characters ("like, yeah," with a head gesture for emphasis).
  • Consumerism:

The show's setting (a fictitious fast food joint) brings junk food like burgers, fries, and soda to the forefront.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Mr. Meaty

Parents need to know that although this is a puppet show, it's geared toward tweens and teens and isn't meant for little kids. It's rife with crass bodily function humor, slang, and cool-girl attitude that parents probably won't want younger kids hearing and repeating. That said, the show's take on an extreme cross-section of teenage life is likely to resonate with many viewers, who will enjoy the idiosyncratic characters and their attempts to survive the uncertainties of puberty.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about cliques and popularity. What does it mean to be one of the "cool" kids? Who defines popularity? How do people cross from one group to another? Which characters are attempting to make that kind of switch? Why? Families can also discuss setting goals and working toward them. Why is it important to have a manageable goal in life? How can friends and family help (or hurt) your efforts?

    A stupid show

Mr. Meaty is just plain stupid and bad for kids. Some of the episodes are just disgusting, like one where a girl's nose falls off. Do you want your kids to be experiencing this kind of stupidity that a toddler might think could really happen? Mr. Meaty has bad role models, considering the two main characters are very unrealistic during events. It is just a bad children's show, and to me, an appalling show for anyone.

    I love Mr.Meaty!

I watch Mr.Meaty every morning! It's such a funny show! I love that it became a TV series instead of the short little extras! Its not innapropite, but Josh and Parker and Ashley can be a little rude sometimes, but nothing that a little kid would immitate.
