What Parents Need to Know

About House

Parents need to know that this show is a medical drama, generally dealing with life-threatening illnesses, often depicted graphically. Characters drink, smoke, curse, use drugs, get in arguments, violate rules, and lie. Characters routinely work their way around hospital regulations in order to save patients, a practice that raises complex moral dilemmas that may confuse younger viewers. Also, Dr. Gregory House's routine use of and possible addiction to painkillers is a recurring theme.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the responsibility of doctors and medical professionals toward their patients. Is Dr. House's violation of hospital rules justified? What about his rudeness toward patients and peers? Viewers could also discuss the representation of the medical field, which in the show is often straightjacketed by bureaucratic regulations. How accurate is this representation?

Brilliant, but not for younger audiences

I think that this is a wonderful, incredibly well acted show, especially on the part of Hugh Laurie, who plays the title character. But there are definitely problems with it. There is a fair amount of swearing, and though they don't ever use the worst words, the words they do use are used often. There are frequent innuendos and sexual situations, some of which are worse than others. And, of course, being a medical drama, there is lots and lots of blood and guts, so if you have a weak stomach, you really shouldn't watch this show. However, while characters are often not the best role models, good messages abound, and there are some amazingly priceless and touching moments between characters. But I would certainly suggest to parents that they watch this show before letting their children watch it.

I rate this title iffy for age 13 and give it 5.0
    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate sexual content
    • Inappropriate language
    • Drinking, smoking, or drug use

For older kids who can handle blood and vomit

I love this show however the language might be a little too strong for some and the sex is a little too much. Only once hav I seen something between the doctors get a little too much. The doctor's have mentioned some innuendo and some patients have relations at the beginning of some episodes however they are usually brief.

This is a great show for anyone who is old enough to understand it, my mom got me hooked a couple years ago and its a great show with great surprises. I urge anybody who likes a compelling and smart comedy/drama to watch this atleast once however i recommend renting the first season and wathing them in order or it wont make any sense
