Why We Rated This on for Ages 12 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

The concept of questioning authority is the backbone of this song.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Metaphorical references to “burning down the foreman of control,” as well as some lyrics that could be construed as violent in tone: “revolt against the honor to obey.” Also, a pronouncement that “violence is an energy” and a reference to blood being sacrificed.

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About "Know Your Enemy" (CD Single)

Parents need to know that this high-powered, highly political tune rallies against apathy, the media, and war, without resorting to some of the more colorful language of Green Day's past songs. While this song is clean, the upcoming album does have a parental advisory warning.
