What Parents Need to Know

About The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement

Parents need to know that this movie has scenes of social embarrassment and manipulation. Also, there are several kisses in this movie, including a couple of the "foot-popping" variety. Mia does discuss with her grandmother arranged marriages as a means to secure the throne, and there are revelations both about loveless marriages and marriage-less loves.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about how one's duty to oneself might conflict with another duty; for example, when Nicholas acts in such a way as to secure the best outcome for Genovia, in his view, but he does not act honorably. Also, they might want to discuss how perspectives on a tradition change for the better or worse. Finally, they might want to talk about the different relationships in the movie and what Mia might do in the months that follow the movie's end.

    Great for 5 and up!

I loved it, but there is a scene where she sneaks out with a guy even though she's engaged to another, and they fall asleep together, but otherwise it's great!

Very Empowering And Fun Girl Movie

This movie is very empowering for girls and mia is a strong role model, I love it!! But I also think there is quite a bit of kissing and flirting for a G movie. It's not nesscerly something I'd want a 3 year old to see.

A kids' movie that I don't mind watching 50 million times!

My two year old loves this movie. I was very surprised. I had to explain to her that people might get hurt feelings if you say "shut up," but it's great besides that. A kids' movie that I don't mind watching 50 million times!

Not an improvement on the first, but still quite enjoyable

Sexual Content (Pause): Some kissing. Mia and Nicholas go out on a date late at night and end up sleeping together under a tree. Violence (Not an Issue): Some comic pratfalls. Language (Not an Issue): None. Social Behavior (On): Tolerance is a major theme of the movie. Commercialism (Not an Issue): None. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Pause): Some social drinking.

Not as good as the first one :( BUT STILL GREAT!

I loved it when Julie Andrews (as the Queen) tells one of the councillor guys to "SHUT UP!" The whole movie is really funny, even for a teenager, and the guy who is trying to get the throne by trying to mess up her engagement is pretty dreamy. Girls will love this movie. It has the same happy and magical quality of the first one and Anne Hathaway still shines as Princess Mia.

    Mia misbehaved

I read the reviews on this website before allowing my 8 year old to see this movie. It sounded harmless, so we saw it. However, there were several times I really cringed. In the first movie, Mia gets into some royal trouble by mistake and by trusting the wrong people. This time she sneaks out with a boy (while engaged to another) and winds up falling asleep with him outside. Nothing happens other than kissing, but the whole idea of a heroine sneaking out and cheating on someone was not an example that I want for my daughter. Another big thing for me was there was a reference to homosexuality. I was just not ready to explain that issue to my child yet. I did like that Mia took a stand in the end and made a positive social change.

Good movie, but I liked the first better...

A pretty good movie, though the first was a bit better. I was a little old for it,(though it was still good), but my sister who's seven loved it. A good family movie.

Even my 11 year old boy liked it

Although not nearly as good as the first, this was enjoyable for my 6 year old daughter and 11 year old son, and watchable for me. Good messages about being true to yourself. My kids couldn't believe that Julie Andrews was Maria in Sound of Music.
