I too really disliked the ultimate message of this movie...Not that all movies have to tow the line and be Politically Correct.. But it really would have been fabulous to have had a smart and beautiful protagonist who majors in physics at Harvard AND ice skates. There are just so very few positive images and role models in the media for girls. What if you don't want to be a rock/pop/movie/webcast star, a star athlete or a model??? I feel as though I spend major amounts of my time trying to counter the Disney and Cartoon Network images of girls and women...and we don't really watch much TV at all!

Lots to talk about....
- I rate this title off for age 7 and give itMy concerns are:
Sends the WRONG message to our smart girls!
This movie is pretty innocuous on the surface, but the message is incredibly wrong for this era's young people. A very intelligent girl - highly gifted in math and science - is portrayed as making a good choice to pursue a VERY unrealistic dream of ice skating, mostly to flaunt what is percieved as her mother's dream that she go to Harvard. While some parents may be trying to fulfill their own dreams, most are just trying to get their children to make good and wise life choices about what the future really holds. This movie would otherwise be OK, but the message is all wrong for our smart young girls.
I rate this title iffy for age 8 and give itCute, but iffy message
The movie is cute, but I was pretty appalled by the message (especially for my brainy, science-minded 7 year old) that following your dreams probably meant NOT going to Harvard on a physics scholarship! I'm troubled by the number of messages I see in the media, especially to girls, that you should rebel against your parents by not getting a great education. There's no reason why a girl can't pursue something like figure skating AND go to Harvard on a physics scholarship and I would have liked to see that message. It's disappointing that this movie missed the chance to do that.

great girly movie
this was a great movie that showed keeping a good head and figuring out your dreams-while not being afraid to stay smart is what it's all about. It's a little over the head for some kids on the moral issues-but it was a great movie.

Good message for girls.

Very Inspiring for young dreamers.
I was impressed with this teen that uses her academic skills to follow her dreams. Her respect for her mother was obvious even in the face of disagreement. A must see for any parent to remember our children's dreams are not those we would choose, but are just as important. Wonderful actors and actresses all around. Team building and supportive. A must buy for home library.

Perfect Mom/Daugher Outing
My 8 year old loved this as did the 11 year old girl who came with us.

was glad to have my daughter as an excuse to see this
I completely enjoyed the movie, wept copiously. Much of the message was above my 6-year-old's head, but she enjoyed the skating.

Very cute!
Very cute movie! I was pleasantly surprised that there was some variation to the normal "tweenie" formula. My only problem was with loose usage of the words "stupid" and "idiot". Also the very last scene sort of does a 180 on the message the movie pretty successfully gave. But what kid is actually watching at that point? The climax of the movie was already over. Also there could have been more skating scenes to keep it from getting a bit slow in parts - who doesn't like those?

shallow.
I have to say, the plot is not that interesting. The ice-skating scenes are not that good, and the acting is second-rate.

The Sweetest Movie for Girls of All Ages
This is a wonderful, heartwarming movie that follows a school-oriented senior as she turns into a professional figure-skater. Some inaccuracies, admittedly, but not any obvious ones and it makes not impact on the enjoyment. I have watched it with people aged 5-45 and they all enjoyed it (though one uncle made a comment on it being 'girly) :) In conclusion, this is a fabulus film for girls of all ages, and if they like this then they should try the Disney movie 'Go Figure'.

1 of the worst Disney movies ever (and there are quite a few)
'Hey, Mom, I don't care about "YOUR" dream or the fact that I have a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to Harvard, because I'm gonna go skate for 6 years, then become a wash-up with no money and regret my stupid decision for the rest of my life!' Is that a great message or what? My 9 year old sister saw this and after it was over, asked my mother, "Can I go get iceskates?" Ummm...no? The probablity of skating on a pond for 2 months every winter for 10 years and then somehow becoming a world-famous skater after less than 6 months of training is so ridiculous, Disney should have fired these writers after one read-through of the storyboard! Now girls everywhere are being pelted with the message, "Give up your incredible intelligence and skate around in frilly leotards! It's really fun, and your mother is wrong when she tells you not to; but don't worry, she'll come around!" I'm glad I watched this movie; it gives me more to critisize when I'm bored.

a fun movie for kids 7and older.
Ice Princess is about a girl named Kasey. The only thing she wants to do is skate. The time is coming for college and sinse her family does not have enough money for Harvard her mom is presuring her to get a physics scholership. Her mother does not approve of Figure skating and forbids Kasey to skate. Kasey has to sneek off and lie to her mom. In the end she has to pick skating or school. I think this movie is a good movie for kids 8 and up.

I LOVE IT
Probably the reason I like it is all the ice skating. One of my dreams is to be a ice skating champion and this movie says that you really have to work if you want your dreams to come true. It insprired me to work hard to reach my goals and that anything is possible when you want it more than anything. I think this is an excellent movie for all ages.

Cute movie...
I thought that this was a cute movie. It definitely inspires little girls to try hard and follow their dreams. I think I was a little old for it, but kids around 7-9 would like it.

Oh my gosh...
This movie was insanely... Disney. If you want a totally child-safe movie, this is it. I personally didn't like it, but the worst part is probably the main character fighting with her mom. Definitely a go if you want a movie for the young kids.
