The only reason i would recommend this movie is so people would see how much they murdered an outstanding book. it is nothing like the book, terrible, just terrible. i geuss if no one has read the book it might be an alright movie because it is a bit interesting. but for someone looking for a quality movie to watch and enjoy, this is not it. the acting is terrible, the story is really choppy, it just dosent make much sense. i say lets kill the guy who directed it and get peter jackson to remake the first and continue with the second and third. and Recast the while movie. seriously. this was a big story for an inexperienced director to take on.

Very dissapointed.
This is nowhere near on par with the book. It was ok, but it could have been so much better.

A lot of people enjoy bashing this movie, but I enjoyed it a lot. In fact, I own the DVD and look forward to seeing the rest of the trilogy. Like most fantasy movies there's no language or sex, not even in the slightest amount. However, the movie is more violent then most PG movies. The good guys only fight to defend other innocent people, but the bad guys enjoy being brutal. In one scene, an evil mystic tries to motivate his soldiers by spearing one of them in the foot. In a latter scene, he kills one of them with his fingernail. There's no blood shown, and there isn't as much swordplay as in the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies, but it can be a little strong for such a low rating.

A sick remake
DON'T SEE IT!

Scary
I believe it is too scary (some scenes) for young children. My 13 year old found the bad guys quite evil looking. Use caution- we can not erase what we see

My six year old boy is very enticed, but may be a bit too young!
My main concern is the use of sorcery in the movie. I think some parents will want to be aware of this part.

Blaaa Eragon the movie
I was VERY disappointed in the movie. The book had such potential and COULD have made movie/movies the caliber of Lord of the Rings with the right director/producer. I feel like Paolini sold us out. Too much was left out...too much was changed. Arya wasn't the noble elf she should have been... The Urgals and Ra'zak were horrible. I am hoping that the movie is remade to be the icon it COULD have been and that everyone has better "sense" in making The Eldest (if it becomes a movie).

wow i saw this movie but it was so violent. So I would give it a PG-13

This was a Great Movie! -Awesome Special Effects
despite what critics say about the film, i thought it was wonderful! the plot is a little cliche, yes. but the special effects provided that extra something that made up for what it lacked. everybody i know who saw the movie as well wanted to see more...hoping for a sequel. i hear the book is out called "Eldest", which is the sequel. but i can only hope that the studios decide to turn it into a movie as well. i, as well as many of my friends, do not have the time to read a novel, let alone watch a 2-3 hour film. PLEASE make the sequel into a film! us movie watchers want to know what happens next!!

The Greatest
It was a very good movie, i think that the people who did not like it have no imagination and are wayyyy to criticle, if you want to watch something with violence and gore in it then go watch 'the hills have eyes' but if you want to watch a movie with a good heart felt story line then watch ERAGON! Hopefully there will be a sequal to this movie.

Loved it
While there isn't anything new about the story it is still very well done. If you are looking for a good fantasy story that you can just sit back and enjoy but don't have the time to watch LOTR then this would be it.

Read the book instead
I had read the book previous to seeing the movie and I was still confused by what was happening. We had to re-read the book to get the story stragiht. Skip the movie and read the book.

A Dragon Tale For All
When I went to see Eragon I went with fresh eyes, as I had not read the book yet. When the movie was over... I bought tickets to see it again the next night with more friends of mine. I thought it was incredible and loved every action filed minute of it. As a video store owner, I do my best to see most movies in theatres, this one was one I would recommend to every family. I loved the action and adventure of it. I've since read the book and thought that the book was even better, but for me it did not deteriorate my enjoyment of the movie. I went and saw it a third time after I had read the book and still enjoyed it. I can't wait for a sequel

LAME LAME LAME!!!!!!
I have read the books and love them. I love all the different places and the characters that the author has built, this movie does not give any of that justice. I could not believe I paid money to see such a lame movie. My brother asked me if he should go see it, I wouldn't wish this movie on my worst enemy.

Pretty good movie, but too scary for my 10-year-old.
I haven't yet read the book, but 14-year-old son, who has, found the movie a bit disappointing. I took my 10-year-old daughter along, and she kept her face buried in my arm for a good portion of the battle scenes. The bad guys were just a bit too much for her. I probably would have enjoyed it more myself if I hadn't been feeling guilty about taking her. So, if you have a tween that is still a little on the sensitive side when it comes to the scary stuff, better wait.

Not as bad as critics say..
Although my 9-year-old son has read both Eragon and Eldest and definitely found those better than the film, I wouldn't discount the movie altogether, and neither would he. I took him and 6 friends to see this movie for my son's birthday and they all loved it. Yes, this movie was made for the tween age group and I really think that for their target audience it was really very well done. It does not compare to Star Wars or even the Lord of the Rings movies in quality of screenplay/direction/acting because the target audience for those were much more general. I was not too shocked by the violence, which was no worse than some pretty violent scenes in Star Wars or LOTR (which we censor on DVD). It's a nice story and shows good relationships between people of many differences working together against the evil. You see sacrifice for those you care about in Eragon for Saphira and Brom for Eragon. I was also very grateful that they did not make any romantic involvement in the movie because (as the boys agreed) it would've really spoiled the story!

Fine for most
The only issue with this movie is the imagery of the villains, (demonic wizards, zombie solderers, etc). It would be a little frightening for very young children. But the violence is somewhat less that that of other movies from this genera, (i.e. Lord f the Rings). Should be no problem for most tweens.
- I rate this title on for age 8 and give it
Somewhat enjoyable, but could have been better
I liked the movie, but it could have been better. The movie moved too slow, so and was not as fun as the up to date fantasy films such as Harry Potter and Lord of the rings. The film reminded of some of the 80's Sci-Fantasy films.

Ths is a great movie!!!!!!!!
This moive was really good, but the book was better.

If I were Paolini, I'd be crying....or absolutely furious!
Eragon, the book, began rather like a Tolkien-wanna-be, but Paolini eventually managed to make his own story. And a good one. The movie, well, trashes it. The pacing was terrible. They carved months of training into a few short days. Sprawling Alegesia is apparently about the same size as Rhode Island. The dialogue was predictable, and still didn't explain everything that needed explaining. Why would some spells kill you? Read the book. The movie won't tell you. The costumes were cheap. Urgals are monsters with horns. Elves have pointed ears. According to the first pages of the book. Big dirty men and a small woman in the movie. There was far too much melodrama. I didn’t care when Saphira was dying. And I knew she wouldn’t. Still, they dragged it on and on. Complex characters were turned into 2-dimensional cardboard cut-outs. For example Book-Murtagh is a minor character in Eragon, but the most complicated character in it. It’s a set-up for his much larger role in the rest of the trilogy. Movie-Murtagh made no difference at all. Why bother having him? The plot was convoluted, leaving out critical points that are needed for the rest of the trilogy. It's awful.

Amazing and Clean Movie
This was a great movie. I think that it isn't exactly like the book, story-wise, but the elements of the characters are perfect. The graphics are great, the story is fast ands suspenseful, and the good is identified as good and the bad is clearly bac. I think it odes a good job of seperating the two- there is no gray areas. Everyone has a side that they're on, the side they pick is apparent. I loved this movie, but younger kids should be cautious- the violence is intense.

Ok personaly I hate this movie. They destroyed the book, but anyways... It's ok for children 8+ I believe (maybe even for younger ages) because there's no sexual content, no swearing, just violence.

.........
Probably the reason why it didnt include all the gory stuff is because the movie was designed for kids since most of the readers are kids. Do you really think they would make this an R movie. Kids would complain and the movie would be like 4-5 hours long to explain everything. I do disagree about the part when Roran leaves to get a job to support his betrothed Katrina in the book but in the move it says he leaves to join the army which the family hates in the book. Also they skip Terim where Brom meets up with one of the rebels which is his best friend. The second and third movies are going to be screwed up...

I killed brain cells and wasted time watching this
let me apoligize in advance to everyone who did like this movie but I have to speak my mind. it sucked. the movie wasn't like the book at all. in fact they mangled it so bad that there's no possible way without a remake they can make a sequel movie. one main part where they messed up is the part that says "if a rider dies so does it's dragon" however Galbatorix's dragon isn't his! his dragon died so he killed another rider and took that rider's from him. in fact if common sense media allowed more words I could go on and on and on and on about how badly they messed up and parts they forgot. oh and the urgals are more like orcs not human's. some are supposed to be over 8 feet tall and they have giant horns! oh and the king isn't trying to kill eragon. he's trying to capture him because he needs saphire cause she's the last female dragon in existence. if she dies then the whole race of dragon's dies. just read the book and you'll see what I mean. in fact this movie could have been rated "R" if they did everything in the book. that's how much they messed up.

Arrrggghhh!!!!
This is so stupid. They totally ruined some of my favorite books to make into a stupid action movie that doesn't make sense. At least make your kids read the books before seeing this STUPID movie!! DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!!!

The Book Was Better...
One night, when I was almost finished reading Eragon, I decided to watch the movie. I absolutely love the book but the movie I didn't care for. It skipped a lot of important scenes to make time, but the movie was a bit short in time and really short in details.

Movie ruins book
This movie is one of my least favorite ever. It would have been marginal if there hadn't been a book to go with it, but nothing is like the book (read my review). Don't watch it if you like the book.

-_-
Ill keep this short. The movie blows chunks, its awful. Luckily for all those "concerned parents" the tore down most of the violence. This quote from a Shurtugal.com post sums it up: "The movie got a PG rating? I guess that leaves out the baby with the spear through its heart on the pile of bodies then"
