What Parents Need to Know
This review of Demigod was written by Marc Saltzman
Parents need to know this Teen-rated game does contain some fantasy violence, but it's light on blood and not very graphic due to the top-down view of the action (more of a bird's eye commander perspective as opposed to a fighter's view from the front lines). A few sexual and alcohol-related remarks or written words are in the game but nothing too risqué at all. A female warrior wears a very skimpy outfit.
Families Can Talk About
- Families can talk about whether this game should have included a more fleshed out single-player campaign instead of focusing heavily on the multiplayer component. Or is it a waste of money for a designer to spend time (money, resources) on a mode many gamers might pass on?
More on Demigod
What’s the Story?
In order to ascend to true godhood, demigods from across the mortal world must wage war against one another to the bitter end. Such is the scenario behind Gas Powered Games' DEMIGOD, an action-heavy, real-time strategy game for the PC that also folds in many role-playing game (RPG) elements.
While this fantasy brawler can be played alone in a single-player mode, Demigod was designed from the ground up to be a multiplayer title, allowing players to compete in online skirmishes. Players choose from one of eight mighty beings -- each with its own awe-inspiring powers -- before joining a battle and fighting alongside support troops, seizing land and resources, gaining experience points ("levelling up"), and acquiring new spells and skills.
CloseIs It Any Good?
Designer Chris Taylor (Dungeon Siege, Supreme Commander) has masterfully crafted another hybrid fantasy fighter worth playing. This deep strategy epic is one of those rare games that plays out different every time you boot up, therefore adding to its longevity and replayability. Attractive graphics (scalable depending on the age of your PC) and great music also add to the fun.
