    Oh, what a good book!

Everyone needs to read this at least once, especially if you like animal stories. If you liked "The Wind in the Willows", you'll like this book!

    Thrilling and Meaningful

This novel is a complex masterpiece accessible on many levels to different ages. On the first level, it is a simple adventure story that even beginner readers can understand (perhaps with the use of a dictionary or occasional help of an adult). However, with multiple re-readings the complexity and beauty of the novel shines through and the power of friendship, freedom, and bravery is demonstrated in more ways than one.

Although I never finsihed it, I loved it...

It was a bit dry, but I got more than halfway through then put the book down. I plan to finsish it soon, but I loved it anyways. It wasn't quite as violent as the movie, which makes it more appropriate. The review below me is an opinion, rather than a fact. Like csm said, its a thinking persons book. If you're willing to putnsome thought into it, then you will love it. If not, you will think it's boring, and, more or less, bad. I liked the characters, they set good examples and messages, although Woundwort is very bad, he does get a taste of his own medicine. I even named my two new rabbits after it (Hazel and Fiver).

    BOOOORRRRIINNNGGGG!!!!!!! and BBBBBAAAADDD!!!

Hated it. It was so boring i finished it in two months and i am a fast reader. I don't get the point and message. Books are supposed to give you a good message allthis was about was danger felling bunnies. Not good for kids teens or adults unless you never want to read a book again. The most horrible book ever. Please take my word and dont read. If you want to read a good book with aa message just limit out this book no message and bunnies dont set good romodels only if you want to eat carrots the rest of your life. Sorry i hated this boring book. I give it 1 star because i cant put none. Thanks please agrree and listen if you havent read it yet.!!!!!!!!!

    ~Watership Down~

I started reading this book after I somehow "stumbled" on the movie, and after watching it, I thought I'd give the book a try. It was much better than the movie including the character's perspectives and problems the Watership Downers encountered.

    "WATERSHIP DOWN" IS THE BEST!!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I really enjoyed reading this book after I got passed part I 'The Journey'. I think it might be hard for people who are not good readers to read. I like how the author added a language the rabbits used, but some people won't like having to remember what the rabbit words mean. It is not very violent but there are some places where it gets rough, you will mostly here of this through stories. It may be upsetting to more sensitive readers how some rabbits are killed by humans and other rabbits. This book it good for both girls and boys as it has both boys and girls. The names may be strange because some of the boys have names that seem like girls names and vise-versa and others are just plain strange here is an example: some of the Bucks (males): Hazel, Holly, Bluebell, Laurel, & Bigwig. Some of the Does (females): Clover, Haystack, and Hyzenthlay.

Best book ever, my fav =)

Watership Down is my favorite book, you get SO attached to the characters, they are all rabbits and I cried at the end for a while because I would love to continue following them on their adventures. One part was a little scary but it wasn't THAT violent. A lot of other members of my family read it and they loved it too!

A must read book for everyone!

This book is what I think my favorite book. I know there is a movie out and my grade watched it. It got bloody sometimes and they edited out somethings but I like the book better. PS: I liked the very end of the movie with Hazel too.

dunno about the book, but the movie...

i've never read the book. people seem to like it, so i guess it must be good. but i saw the movie they made of it, and there are parts that were so freaky... i was about ten, and i still remember nightmares that i had.

    I absolutely LOVE this book

I read it at a very young age, it was the longest book I had ever read at the time. I didn't quite comprehend it, but I fell in love with it. Years later, I read it again, and again, and again...Very recommendable. Everyone who likes literature should read it. The younger children won't understand it, which is what happened to me, and it does have lots of violence in it. This is the book that hooked me on animal fantasy for several years. But no other books I read could match up to this one, unless you're talking about The Plague Dogs. Whole different story. I read a review on Amazon.com which had a mother complaining because it had no female rabbits and the few that were there were refered to as "does"...Ha ha ha...It's not like the rabbits are going to go around saying "Oh, we need ourselves some girl rabbits. Yeah, some girl rabbits. Some girlfriends, you guys." Heehee. No, seriously, this book can bring up a couple of questions with the younger children, but to not like it because the main characters are mostly male...?

    One of my favorite books

Watership Down is an excellent book. I don't think people younger than maybe 13 or 14 could really fully apprieciate it but I really loved it. It's a classic tale of rabbits who are most life like in this epic tale.

  11. I rate this title on for age 2 and give it 0.0

    BAD

This book is an absolute atrocity. Please do NOT read. Richard Adams is in need of a straight jacket and a padded room. If is basically a 500 page story book about rabbits, it is a nasty read. If you value your sanity, just put it down

I lost any respect for my English teacher I had.

It was not the best story. It was okay at the beginning, horrible at the middle, even worse in part III, but pretty good at the end. All in all, i would give it a 2 1/2 stars, but since that option is not available, I'll please the author and give it 3 stars.

Ugh. I hated this book. It was really boring, especially in the beginning. The battling rabbits were kind of disturbing. Don't read this, unless you want to be bored.

    boring then good

I am a really fast reader, but I had over a month to finish this book and read the last 200 pages the night before because the beginning was so boring. after about 300 pages it became good, very good, enough to make up for the awful first half-ish. in spite of myself, when i finally finished I was like "that was a good book" but trust me the first half stinks. Not sure if the second half quite makes up for it or not, but there you go.

Read this, because I want you to discover something great.

Once again, every time I talk about this book, I cannot think of anything good enough to say. Rabbits made my day, so let them make yours.

    I was hooked!!

A must read for everyone!!! It is well written, such as the descriptions of the various warrens and the like. However, one of the rabbits (Bigwig) is a very warrior-like rabbit, sometimes instigating violent situations. Also, one of the warrens is baited by a farmer and the other rabbits lie to the Watership Down rabbits. There is mention of females bearing young and being 'in season', and seem to be thought of as only useful for digging burrows and bearing young. Pushing all this aside, this is a book with much character developement, a good plot, and leaves the reader begging for more.
